Important Dates For 2020 XC Season
July
Wednesday, July 1st - Summer Training Sessions Begin (follow us on twitter @hempsteadXC) We also suggest you join the free messaging service Remind by sending a text to 81010 and then text the message @062f4c7 or click on the link https://www.remind.com/join/062f4c7
Anyone interested in competing on the Mustang XC team for the 2020 season is encouraged to attend our summer training sessions. Summer Training Sessions are held Monday through Friday (8:00am - 10:00ish) starting July 1st until Friday, July 31st. We strongly encourage our incoming freshmen to attend and get to know their fellow teammates! The summer training sessions consist of a fun and competitive dynamic warm-up by playing Ultimate Frisbee on the field turf. Then, we perform a few minutes of our dynamic stretching routine, drills for running mechanics, and complete our daily mileage.
Daily mileage varies depending on the age and level of fitness for each athlete. We ensure that every athlete starts off the summer with safe and easy mileage; however, we will eventually encourage every athlete to slowly and safely increase daily and weekly mileage. Summer training sessions begin by meeting on the HHS track at 8:00 am and usually lasts until 9:30 am. Improving one's level of fitness is imperative to the enjoyment and success of both the team and each athlete in the sport of Cross Country!
We are required to follow the guidelines set by the IAHSAA which can be found at https://www.iahsaa.org/covid-19/

August
Monday, August 2nd - Team Camp Begins
The HHS XC Team Camp is very important to the success of the 2020 XC Team! A tremendous amount of team building, instruction about the sport, eating habits, daily practices for a healthy lifestyle and instilling strong leadership will occur and be implemented at our Team Camp. It is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that any Hempstead athlete planning on running for the 2020 Cross Country Team be present at our Team Camp! Please try not to plan a family vacation or other conflict during this very important and initial week of the season!
Click on the Team Camp Info page at the top of this page.
By August 30 - ImPact Testing must be completed online
Students who need to complete ImPact Testing in order to gain a practice permit will need to complete their impact testing online. An email has been provided by our trainer, Brian Regan. This must be completed by August 30 to endure participation in cross country. If you wish to set aside a time to do so in person at Hempstead, please contact the trainer.
Monday, August 9th - Official First Day of Cross Country Practice!
We meet in room L004 at the beginning of every practice at 2:30 pm (Monday - Friday). Athletes will need to arrive in running attire and running shoes and have an updated practice permit recorded in the Activities Office. In addition, one must complete the ImPACT Concussion form and test before participating in practice.
We will conduct a short meeting and begin with our training. Much of our initial "first-day" instruction and expectations will be discussed during our team camp. Athletes who skip the Team Camp will be a week behind and very ill-informed on a variety of Cross Country related subjects. Any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior who misses the first or second day of the official season will not be permitted to join the team since those would be considered unexcused absences thereby violating the team rules.
Practice Permit Reminder!!!
Practice Permits need to be on record in the Activities Office before any Cross Country athlete can participate in practice. It is absolutely necessary that you have an up-to-date physical on record in Activities Office so that Wanda (Activities Secretary) can give you a practice permit which will permit your to practice! This needs to be done well in advance of the first day of practice!!! You CANNOT be waiting in line at Activities Office on the first day of practice. It is imperative you are present with Practice Permit in hand at the very beginning of our first official practice!!!
