Incoming 7th - 12th graders are welcome to join the Hempstead XC program for morning runs. During the month of June we meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. In July we meet Wednesdays as well. Sessions run from 8:00 am - 10:00 am (10:30 on Thursdays for lifting). We strongly encourage our incoming freshmen to attend and get to know their fellow teammates! The summer training sessions consist of a fun and competitive dynamic warm-up by playing Ultimate Frisbee on the field turf. Then, we perform a few minutes of our dynamic stretching routine, drills for running mechanics, and complete our daily mileage.
Daily mileage varies depending on the age and level of fitness for each athlete. We ensure that every athlete starts off the summer with safe and easy mileage; however, we will eventually encourage every athlete to slowly and safely increase daily and weekly mileage. Summer training sessions begin by meeting on the HHS track at 8:00 am and usually lasts until 10:00 am. Improving one's level of fitness is imperative to the enjoyment and success of both the team and each athlete in the sport of Cross Country!
